    The Charlotte Trail of History and Mecklenburg County Park & Recreation present the 3rd annual Trail of History Festival commemorating the upcoming 250th anniversary of Captain Jack's infamous ride to Philadelphia at the Captain Jack Sculpture!

    Mecklenburg 250 Festival will feature engaging history programming, educational exhibits, live music, talented artists, community outreach organizations, and delicious food and beverages.

    In the Summer of 1775, Captain James Jack rode 450 miles to deliver the Mecklenburg Declaration of Independence to Congress. In honor of his historic ride and partnership with Queen City Bicycles, you’re invited to participate in a historic bike ride from the Olde Mecklenburg Brewery to various historical locations around Charlotte relevant to Captain Jack. The ride will leave from Olde Mecklenburg Brewery and finish there with a social hour. Riders of all ages and experiences are welcome; the path will be the CLT Rail Trail to uptown, then down past the Captain Jack Statue then back to OMB.

    Each year on May 20th, Charlotte commemorates the anniversary of the Mecklenburg Declaration of Independence with a ceremony at the intersection of Trade and Tryon Streets, known as Independence Square. This event, sponsored by Charlotte Center City Partners and the May 20th Society, celebrates the historic 1775 declaration, in which local leaders proclaimed their freedom from British rule.
