Mecklenburg County is beginning to craft its Fiscal Year (FY) 2025 - 2026 budget. The first step is a public hearing where residents have the opportunity to speak on their priorities and concerns as they relate to services funded by Mecklenburg County.

Residents who register to speak will be able to offer input directly to BOCC regarding the forthcoming budget.

During this 2-3 day budget retreat, the Mecklenburg Board of County Commissioners will meet to address fiscal policies and set its priorities as the County Manager prepares to develop the FY2025 - 2026 recommended budget. 

The County manager will outline funding recommendations for the next fiscal year for County operations and services, as well as funding recommendations to support the Board's priority areas, community organizations and partner agencies. 

The Mecklenburg County Board of Commissioners will meet for a detailed review of the County manager's recommended budget for FY2025 - 2026. 

The Mecklenburg Board of County Commissioners values your input on the County budget. Residents who register to speak for the second budget public hearing will be able to offer input directly to the BOCC regarding the forthcoming budget.

The purpose of the straw vote meeting is to review the County manager's recommended budget for the next fiscal year and to take action as may be deemed appropriate, including discussions and straw votes on changes to the budget. Members of the public can watch the meeting on the Government Channel or online.

The BOCC will adopt the budget ordinance for the next fiscal year during its June 3 meeting based on the County manager's recommendations and any updates stemming from the straw vote session. The ordinance authorizes all expenditures and sets the annual property tax rate.

The County operates under a balanced budget each fiscal year, from July 1 through June 30, per North Carolina statute.
